Historia de Terrestris Mundi - The First Age</u> (ante cultus)</i>

The Creation of the Earth and Heavens, and the Rise of Man under Raziel

Aeons ago, before the existence of time and space, there existed the Divine Lord Raziel, Keeper of Secrets and creator of the realms earthly and beyond.  In the infinite depths of the Great Void, He created the Earth and drew from His breast Sun and Moon, giving to the Sisters supremacy over the Earth.  Charged with duty, Sun and Moon took guardianship over their Father’s creation and kept the Earth safe from the hungry Void beyond in tireless vigil.

Once, the universe was whole.  For aeons, it continued to exist as creation meant it to be, species rising and falling as insignificant ripples in the tides of time, until the rise of Humanity.  Upon the birth of mankind, Raziel took a liking to his new children and descended to the Earth in the form of an Angel, a beautiful creature with aquiline wings and head and a leonine body.  In the cradle of Humanity, He bestowed upon man three gifts.  One was cleverness of hand and knowledge of his world – man awoke to consciousness and he rose above the common beasts in new-found intelligence.  As instructed by Raziel, he fashioned tools from the Earth and built for himself shelter; he cultivated the land and created weapons and traps with which to hunt beasts.  Second was the power of synthesis and invention – man, without his Lord’s guidance, developed ingenious tools of his own making.  Art and culture stemmed from Raziel’s gift of creativity; song came to Man’s tongue and dance to his feet, and to him instruments of self-expression.  Third was the power and will to choose, and with that final gift Raziel left man to govern his own.  He returned to the Heavens and Humanity flourished in His wake.

The people of Raziel were of two breeds: the Ahghaeri and the Niyotael.  The Ahghaeri were people of the plains, inhabiting the vast hills and valleys of the land, and consisted of numerous tribes.  The Niyotael, a dark people who lived separate from their brothers the Ahghaeri, inhabited the deep forests that lay at the fringes of the Razielian people’s domain and lived among the towering trees.  Though no hostility existed between the two, the Niyotael were feared and respected by the Ahghaeri for their reclusive nature, strange practices, and sometimes fierce demeanour.  Peace existed nonetheless and, though the two breeds differed greatly in their ways, there was a brotherly relationship between the two lords of the fields and forests.  Trade of wares and good will flourished between the Ahghaeri and the Niyotael, and the people of Raziel adored their lords and lived their lives in harmony.

Times changed when Dolus, son of the Niyotael and brother to lord Baruk, grew jealous of his older sibling.  Wielding a stone dagger with a crude cutting edge he had shaped along one side, Dolus assaulted Baruk in his home as he slept.  Baruk awoke and fought his brother, but too late came his struggles and the lord of the Niyotael was slain.  Light broke from the wounds that scored his body, pulsing with the heartbeat of the eternal Heavens, and he glowed as if with a white flame.  He rose and left the Earth below and became like a figure with outstretched arms etched in the night sky.  Shame was brought to the name of Dolus – the first of murderers – and he was exiled from the domain of Raziel, while the image of brother Baruk remained forever in the night sky as a beacon for those below.  Thousands of years later, the East would see him as a great tree like that of his homeland, while the West would call him the White Cross.

It was then that Stars were born.  The man who used his gifts wisely and whose soul balanced upon the heavenly scale of Raziel left the mortal world upon death and joined his Lords in the Heavens.  He was given a lantern that burned with an eternal flame and joined the Sisters in the endless guardianship of Earth, dancing forever with Sun and Moon under the wise eyes of Raziel.  If he did not balance upon the scale, however, then his immortal soul passed through the Heavens and was lost forever to the nothingness of the Great Void beyond.

Portrayed as a creature with the body and tail of a lion and the wings and head of an eagle – the same form said to be taken by the Lord in his descent to Earth, shared with the sacred Angel creatures found in the heartland of Humanity – Raziel ruled both the Earth and Heavens with strength and wisdom, holding the Earth in one hand and the Heavens in the form of a scale in the other.  Balanced upon this scale were his daughters, the Sun and Moon who shared equal prevalence over the Earth, and upon this scale were weighed the souls of men.  The people of Raziel worshipped him with great reverence, respecting both day and night and the ideals of their Divine Lord in hopes of earning a place in the Heavens above.

The Evolution of the Nations and the Knights of Amiiroh

This was the belief of men for thousands of years in the age ante cultus, but slowly the primitive people of Raziel branched from the vast tribes of the Ahghaeri and grew beyond the religion of old as men spread to the far reaches of the Earth.  Generations upon generations passed and the time of the Elder Days dwindled into the distance as a half-remembered legacy of Raziel.

Men, blessed with intelligence, rose above the comparatively primitive world in which they lived and dominated it.  Species buckled and slowly fell before the human force as a taste for power grew silent and stealthy in the belly of men.  Quarrels erupted and people fought amongst themselves over petty things, but despite any fraternal animosity, the great Nations of nations took root with time and slowly grew, characterized by the shared traits of their citizens.  Aldyr – a wise and refined culture that fancied all things beautiful – and Barrow – home to all those skilled in technology and cunning with numbers – very much abandoned the beliefs of the Elder Days, leaving only the remains of the Raziel’aiya to the ways of the ancient religion.

Throughout this evolution of the Three Nations, calling from no one nation in particular, the noble and the wise met and collaborated, holding great gatherings outside the politics and practices of their homelands where one may think more freely.  These men became a close-knit sect; they formed not a new religion but a strict code of conduct that embraced beliefs both new and old.  Virtue was to be their rock, and so they called themselves the Knights of Amiiroh.

For many centuries, there existed strife between the nations.  Mistrust and apprehension existed between the ancient Razielians and the daughter nations Aldyr and Barrow, but the people of Raziel were seldom dealt with and lived in relative peace and isolation.  This lack of understanding with the children of Raziel was belittled by the conflicts both political and physical between sisters Aldyr and Barrow.  Years passed under the threat of open war while the Knights of Amiiroh that so tentatively united them struggled to maintain the peace that existed among the people of the two quarrelling Nations.

As the young Nations slowly matured and vied for dominance over the known Earth, several Knights struggled to unite the Nations of Earth in peace.  Spearheaded by Garrick – Niyotael priest and young, ambitious Knight wise beyond his age – the movement was unsuccessful for many years and suffered much from the fallout of political rivalry.  However, following the simultaneous rise of new leaders in the Houses of Aldyr and Barrow and the signing of the Treaty of Pasam, Garrick successfully brought all Three Nations of Earth together in a pact of peace.  Hence, the three great powers joined into a single world government and proclaimed themselves to be the United Empire of Man, symbol of the glory of Humanity and their achievement of world peace at last.  The year was called Annus Humanus and the people of the newborn Empire rejoiced in their triumph over war, hailing Garrick as their leader and first Emperor.
"The Latin word “tripartitus” describes a whole comprised of three parts. The purpose of The Tripartitus is triple-facetted: to experience the development of Luke Damon, to understand the character of Jayli, and to stimulate thought in the reader..."

The history of the Tripartitus, part I of III.

This is not a plot outline for my story. Rather, it describes the social, political, and historical backdrop against which the plot takes place - many pieces of information essential to understanding the plot and motives of the story, however, can be found here.

Anyone who is knowledgeable in the grammar of Latin, please correct me whenever I brutalize the language. Thank you.
