Description
Bestiary artwork for Endless Realms, a D&D-like "pen and paper" fantasy RPG I'm working for.
It was tough deciding on which direction to go with the chimera - there have been a lot of really neat designs I've seen for them that I've liked. One is from God of War, which stood out to me as having been able to do something different with the arrangement of heads/faces on the body, and really gave the impression of being a conglomerate of multiple creatures - when one aspect was defeated, it's behaviour/movement would change into another one. The other is from Dark Souls, which is strikingly beautiful but not actually a strict "classic" chimera. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with something newer and more interesting, using the creature as an opportunity to combine unusual creatures, or to stick to the most classic chimera description - I eventually opted for the latter. Classics are classics for a reason, and if people are looking to put a chimera in their game, I could see them not getting what they were looking for if I had done, I don't know, some kind of hippo-eagle-bull or komodo-bear-pig instead :b
Speaking of which, someone should make those now. They sound fun :b

You know, it isn't very often that I've seen someone do the classic chimera design and make the whole thing look threatening. The goat head normally messes that up unless they've done some major tweaks to make a goat look scary. xD
I love the concept of a chimera though. Different parts of different things melded together (sometimes well and sometimes not so well) to make something else entirely... I have a chimera character whose "usual" chimera form (she's a shapeshifter) I am very pleased with though. :3 I could link her to you if you'd like to see?
