Sure thing! Short hair is tough for sure x_x I had to figure out an expedient way to do it when I was working on this picture - basically, I took to using a noisy texture brush, specifically found here (the "texture" brush fifth from the top).
Or you can do it the long way and paint it hair by hair: [link] If you're going for something "in between" in effort/look, try using the "hair" brush (sixth from the top) or something like it to make short strokes to lay down multiple little bits of short fur at once, or scribbling with a small thin brush or fur brush like I demonstrate a bit here and here. Gotta use a bit of a light careful hand, though, otherwise it'll look messy/sloppy.
That was incredibly helpful and I genuinely appreciate it. Snout fur is absolutely terrible IMO lol I could never get it right. After this I just did a new picture and it's the first I'm I'm not bashing my head against a wall shouting "why don't you work!?"
Yeah, I know, I had some difficulty with that. Well, the hair is basically made up of smooth tubes/spikes, their surfaces aren't furry, so the hair's texture came out looking more "rubbery" because its shading is smooth, compared to the fur which is quite the opposite.
Yeah. They aren't like... fleshy extensions with skin and therefore fur. They're like... spikes or thick tubes of "hair". So I sorta considered texturing the hair like [link] but I didn't know if that'd be kinda weird o_O
*nods* I'm not sure. Yeah, I thought about making it kinda scaly like real close-up hair, but also seemed sort of like a lot of work, haha :b So I guess partly it was me not being sure, and partly me being lazy :b
